Caramel Squares

 

1 C sugar

½ C Crisco

2 egg yolks

1 t vanilla

1 ½ C flour

1 t baking powder

½ t salt

1 ½ C chopped pecans

 

Mix shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat with electric mixer. Sift together baking powder, salt, and flour. Add and mix. Add nuts. Pour into 7 x 11 pan

 

Meringue

 

2 egg whites

1 C brown sugar

½ t vanilla

 

Beat egg whites, add sugar and vanilla. Spread on above dough. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes
